Did you know that the wheel of the zodiac can also be viewed as a sine wave that aligns with the positioning of the sun?
The Astrological Sequence
In Astrology, there is a clear journey from one sign to another, a cycle completes and begins again. Our basic journey of the Earth around the Sun begins in March with Aries and the start of new life, energy of the spring commencing at the equinox. In Aries, Earth spends 30 days finding its standing in the new buds and sunshine that sign brings, before moving under the influence of the Bull, Taurus. It transitions on until it reaches the final sign, Pisces. At the end of Pisces, there is transmutation from the final degrees into the first degree in Aries- where it all begins again. It’s a simple tale of repeating cycles, with the other planetary influencers constantly changing to make each moment unique for a long period of time.
Astrological ages are different, even though the same zodiac signs are used. The wheel turns in the opposite direction- from Pisces into Aquarius, into Capricorn, etc.
The path of the Wheel
One of the questions of the basic astrology wheel is where is the starting point. One of the lessons I learnt early on from my teachers was that there were two potential starting points Pisces or Aries. My preferred approach is to begin with Aries as this matches up with the Spring Equinox and follows the path of the sun from Spring to Summer Solstice and all the way through. In this model it displays that the Summer solstice, the peak path of the sun is aligned with the tropic of cancer as astrologically it enters Cancer. At the begin of the autumn/fall and the Autumn Equinox, the transition from Virgo to Libra shows the descent down the wheel. By Winter Solstice, the Sun is lined up with the tropic of Capricorn. For me, this is the best wheel alignment. The tale of the Zodiac is a journey of exaltation, descent, death and rebirth- or as some will say the philosopher’s journey turning lead into gold. The transmutation at Pisces is where the journey begins again as the wheel rises back into Aries. It can represent the day, the month, the year or the great year.
Turning the wheel into a wave.
By sorting out the wheel, it is now time to transition so the wave format.
Astrological Ages and reversing the sign/sine wave.
Firstly, the Sun’s path is in connection with Sirius, the two doing a dance throughout the path of the universe. It is said that the Sun’s cycle (the great year) is approximately 25,800- 25,920 years long. That means roughly 2,150-2,160 years in each sign and 72 years in each degree. N.b. This is the approximate rate of procession as well (71.67 years)
Secondly, the Sun moves in the opposite direction on its path with Sirius, so the Zodiac moves in reverse to our normal wheel. This means that the astrological journey is different. It operates in reverse. Instead of Aquarius laying the water for the fishes of Pisces to swim, the experience is reversed. Pisces brings in Aquarius.
Thirdly, there is the Solar-age sine wave, which is usually depicted as starting from left to right as being in Leo. I believe that as a reverse of the normal rotation through the signs, it must mirror the format. Hence this is why I start with Virgo. It makes sense (at least to me) that the descent into the earthly realm would be in this mutable earthly sign.
A lot is said about the Age of Aquarius, it is dismissed as it must be fiction because the hippies were welcoming in the age of Aquarius in the 1960s, so come on, we must be 60 years into it. If we are in the Astrological Age of Aquarius, it could have started in 1960, it could have begun in 2012, or it could even begin now. If it indeed started in any of those years, we would still be within the first 72 years of it. In other words we would be in the first degree. Incidentally, according to the excellent Jain 108 Academy, an Uluru Elder said that it began in 1947.
As the ‘standard’ wheel goes from ‘Aquarius the water bearer’ providing ‘Pisces the fish’ with the waters to swim in, the reverse is happening here. The transition from Mars into Pisces was one of ego and rulers and it laid a path or continued dogma and War. The time of the fish (Jesus?) was more difficult as there was not enough water to swim in. Now Aquarius, an Air sign ,blows strong winds to help move things along from a war-torn Pisces age. This air is also going to allow the waters to flow better (read emotions) and rather than ‘draining the swamp’, I see it more as unblocking the quagmire.
What is really helpful at this moment in time, for those who love the tarot spreads is, the ally cards (the ones either side of, etc.), or in this circumstance- the ally planets. There was a ‘great conjunction occurring on 21st December 2020. Jupiter and Saturn, within a degree of each other move from Capricorn and into Aquarius. This had a huge influence on things. Pluto moving from the final, critical degree in Capricorn and into Aquarius has been interesting to observe. We are currently retrograded back into Capricorn until mid November and the veil has lifted on many things- revelations abound!
If you are interested, look into the wheel and sine- wave and it may help you understand the astrological story of the journey.
Injoy, inlight and inlove.
